Root: The Underworld – New Powers Rise in the Woodland 🦡🐦‍⬛

Delve deeper into the world of Root. Root: The Underworld Expansion by Leder Games adds two new factions and a new double-sided board, for 2–6 players (with the expansion) aged 14+, taking about 90–120 minutes. A copy of Root is required to play.

The Underground Duchy is an ancient kingdom rising to the surface. From its home in the Burrow, deep under the Woodland, it digs tunnels that can appear in any clearing, then builds Markets and Citadels to gain a foothold above. A council of ministers must be swayed by revealing cards that match clearings where the Duchy has pieces – the more ministers you sway, the more actions you get each turn. But lose a building, and your highest-ranking minister quits. The Corvid Conspiracy are espionage masters. They hatch hidden plots – raids, bombs, extortion and snares – that turn clearings into minefields. Other players can try to guess and expose a plot, so the Corvids must stay unpredictable. The new board offers two maps. On the Mountain map, you trek across outcroppings, clear blocked routes and hold the mountain pass. On the Lake map, you travel across the water on the ferry. Mix the new factions and maps with your Root game for fresh battles in the Woodland.
