Downforce – Fastest Isn't Always Richest 🏎️💰

A racing game – but not only that. Downforce by Rob Daviau, Justin D. Jacobson and Wolfgang Kramer, published by IELLO, is a family racing game for 2 to 6 players in which being the fastest is not the only key to victory.

In Downforce, your real goal is to be the richest. To get there, you bid millions on race cars, bet in secret while the cars battle it out on the track, and walk away with the jackpot. A game is played in three phases. First, in the auction, the players try to take ownership of the six cars in the race. Then comes the race itself: you play the cards in your hand to speed around the track – but most cards also move your opponents' cars. Playing the right card at the right moment is the key, because a card that pushes your car forward might also give a rival the boost they were waiting for. Along the way, as the leading car crosses certain lines on the track, everyone places a secret bet on who they think will win the race. At the end, the player with the most money from race winnings, winning bets and the bank wins the game. Downforce is a new edition of Wolfgang Kramer's Top Race, which was nominated for the Spiel des Jahres in 1996, cleverly combining auctions, betting and racing, with suspense right up to the finish line.
