Swindler – Grab the Loot Before You Get Caught 💰💀

Life in London is not easy. The city is full of rich folk – and you are not one of them. In Swindler by Matthias Cramer, illustrated by Lisa Forsch and published by Edition Spielwiese, 2 to 4 players aged 10 and up take on the roles of thieves in Victorian London.

Swindler combines push-your-luck with take-that mechanisms in a funny and confrontational game. Each round, you have to steal from one of five rich bags by drawing tiles from it. Every bag is filled with coins, jewellery and other loot – but every bag also contains at least one skull. Draw a skull and you have pushed your luck too far: you are caught red-handed and lose not only the loot you stole this round, but also everything you stole from the same bag in earlier rounds. Fences pay you points for the loot you hand over, or you can use your loot to complete jobs – but one of your fellow swindlers may be faster and complete a job before you do. Luckily, you are not on your own: hire accomplices to give yourself advantages or to saddle the other players with disadvantages. After a set number of rounds, the player with the most points is recognised as the most notorious swindler in London and wins the game.
