Heuschrecken Poker – Grow Your Garden, Beware the Grasshoppers 🦗🍓

Who can grow their garden most cleverly while protecting it from the greedy grasshoppers? Heuschrecken Poker (Grasshopper Poker) by Jacques Zeimet, published by Drei Magier Spiele, is a bidding card game for 2–4 players aged 8+, playing in about 20 minutes.

Each player takes a set of 8 poker cards in their colour. Three garden cards – corn, strawberries, broccoli, blackberries and more, but also grasshoppers – are laid out in the middle of the table. In each round, everyone chooses one poker card and places it face down, then all reveal at the same time. The highest card gets to pick from the garden display first, then the next highest, and so on. But beware: equal cards cancel each other out, and those players get nothing this time. The Ace takes the whole display, while the X card takes nothing – unless an X and an Ace are played together, in which case the X takes everything. The garden cards you win are planted in your private garden: three of the same plant earn you a win chip, but three grasshoppers will destroy your garden. Timing your strong cards – and guessing what the others will play – is the key to a flourishing harvest.
