In the 16th century, Tsar Ivan IV, known as “the Terrible”, ordered the construction of the red St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. The Red Cathedral by Sheila Santos and Israel Cendrero, published by Devir, is a medium-weight eurogame for 1 to 4 players with a solo variant, in which you take the role of the builders and craftsmen.

The original design of the cathedral took several decades to build, and the work was carried out by many different groups of builders. Each player erects different parts of the monument – but which of you will contribute the most to the cathedral's towers and add the most beautiful decorations? An important part of building is having all the materials you need at the right moment, and everything you require is available at the market. Its original dice mechanism for acquiring resources is the heart of the game. Your relationships with the various city guilds and with the clergy are also very helpful as you try to outshine your rivals and win the favour of the Tsar. When the construction of the cathedral is complete, the player who has earned the most prestige wins. The rules are quickly learned, yet the game offers tricky challenges.
