ASS Altenburger Schafkopf/Tarock – A Bavarian Classic 🃏🥨

This is the classic Schafkopf and Tarock deck from ASS Altenburger in its new look. The 36 cards carry the traditional Bavarian pattern in the genuine F.X. Schmid design and come in a handy folding box. Suitable for 3 to 4 players aged 10+.

The Bavarian pattern uses the German suits – acorns, leaves, hearts and bells – with Ober and Unter as the face cards, the way Schafkopf players in Bavaria know them. Schafkopf, the much-loved Bavarian trick-taking game, is usually played by four with 32 cards, so you simply set the four sixes aside. With all 36 cards you can also play Tarock. A round takes about 10 to 15 minutes, which makes it easy to play just one more. The cards measure 56 × 100 mm, a slightly longer format typical of Bavarian decks, and they are wrapped in paper instead of plastic inside the folding box. ASS Altenburger has been making playing cards in Altenburg, Germany, since 1765 and calls itself the oldest known playing-card company in Europe. That makes this deck a good choice for regular card evenings at the kitchen table, in the pub or on holiday, and a nice gift for anyone who grew up with Schafkopf.
