KuZOOka – The Great Animal Escape 🦁🔓

It isn't easy being a zoo animal! KuZOOka by Leo Colovini is a cooperative board game from Pegasus Spiele for 2–6 players aged 8 and up, in about 30–45 minutes. It was on the Spiel des Jahres recommendation list in 2023.

The enclosures are far too small and the visitors keep throwing their trash in. When the zoo plans to transfer the animals to an even smaller park in eight days, they decide to break out within the next seven days. All that trash finally becomes useful – if the animals can gather enough of it and understand each other. Each round, everyone receives new item cards that they may not show to one another. Instead, you let the others know which cards you have and which escape plan to use by cleverly placing your animal token on the path through the zoo, which shows the colours of the items and numbers from low to high. On your turn, you either propose a new plan by placing your token further along the path, or end the current escape attempt. Then all items are revealed: if colour and number match the plan, the attempt succeeds and the animals gain experience, giving them more cards in the following rounds. Every animal has a special ability it can use once per day. Reach the escape zone with enough matching items and you all escape together.
