High Society – Live Lavishly, Never Go Broke 🎩💎

You are the cultural elite, outbidding each other to prove you live life to the fullest. High Society by Reiner Knizia, illustrated by Medusa Dollmaker in this Osprey Games edition, is a quick auction card game for 3–5 players.

Each player starts with a secret hand of eleven money cards. In every round, a status card is revealed and auctioned. To bid, play money cards face up and announce your total; you can only raise by adding more cards, never by taking any back. If you pass, you take your money back but are out of that auction. The last player remaining wins the card and spends the money they bid. Luxury cards from 1 to 10 add to your status, while prestige cards double it. Disgrace cards turn the auction around: now everyone bids to avoid the card, and the first player to pass must take it – but keeps their money. Passé costs you 5 status, Faux Pas makes you discard a luxury card, and Scandale halves your status at the end. Four status cards have a dark green background, and when the fourth of them is revealed, the game ends immediately. Then comes the twist: the player or players with the least money left are cast out and cannot win. Of everyone else, the highest status wins.
