River – Discover the Creatures of the Lazy River 🛶🔍

Many unknown creatures are hiding in the long and lazy river, and the explorers need proper equipment and lots of luck to discover them. River from the Hungarian toy manufactory Marbushka is a race of explorers for 2–4 players aged 6+, with games of about 30 minutes.

Build the river from 18 river tiles and place the buoys that mark where unknown creatures may be hiding. Each explorer has a ship and a newspaper page, and uses movement tokens to sail along the river. To discover a creature at a buoy, you need the right equipment – and you get your tools from the cargo ship, paying for them with your movement tokens. So every token counts: spend it on a long trip downriver or on a tool that opens up new discoveries? Your discoveries go into your newspaper, which has room for four cards, and you can improve your article by replacing cards with better finds. Once you have changed your cards four times, it is time to head for the bay – and the first explorer to arrive gets two bonus points. Then everyone adds up the value of their published discoveries, and the explorer with the most outstanding results wins. Simple rules, a bit of luck and plenty of small decisions make it a lively family race.
