Catan: New Energies – Power the Island, Shape the Future ⚡🌍

It is the 21st century and Catan is at a crossroads. Catan: New Energies by Klaus and Benjamin Teuber is a standalone Catan game for 3 to 4 players aged 14 and up, in about 90 minutes, with art by Ian O'Toole.

The agrarian society of the Viking ancestors is long gone – today's Catanians need energy to keep their society growing. The familiar core of harvesting, trading and building stays, joined by power plants, energy and environmental events. Will you invest in clean energy or choose cheaper fossil fuels? Fossil power plants cause pollution events that interrupt resource production; as you invest in renewables, those events are replaced by rewards for sustainable strategies. Pollution affects everyone, so you will negotiate with the other players to keep it down. As in real life, the most sustainable player does not always win – but if pollution stays too high for too long and the game ends in catastrophe, the player who invested most in renewable energy wins.
