Ohanami – Let Your Garden Blossom 🌸🍃

It is spring and the cherry trees are blossoming in Japan – in Japanese, this is called ohanami. Ohanami by Steffen Benndorf, illustrated by Christian Opperer and published by NSV, is a quick card drafting game for 2 to 4 players aged 8 and up, in about 20 minutes.

Each round you get 10 cards. Keep 2, pass the rest to your neighbour, and repeat until all cards are played. Lay your cards in up to three gardens: each new card must be higher than the highest card in a garden or lower than the lowest – gaps are allowed, but you can never insert a card in the middle. Cards that don’t fit are discarded. Blue water cards score every round, green plants from round 2, and grey stones and pink cherry blossoms only in round 3 – the more pink cards, the more they are worth. The highest total after three rounds wins.
