Side Effects – Medicate, Manipulate, Stay Sane 💊💀

Drug use, personal demons, wild episodes and more: Side Effects from Pillbox Games is a "take that" card game in which you race to treat all the Disorders in your psyche with drugs and therapy. A SXSW Gamer's Voice finalist, it plays with 2 to 8 players in 10 to 30 minutes.

Everyone starts with four Disorder cards dealt face up in front of them – three in a game with 6 to 8 players – plus a hand of cards. On your turn you draw two cards and may play up to two. Drug cards treat a matching Disorder in your psyche, but beware: each drug also leaves you open to receiving new Disorders from the other players as side effects. Therapy cards treat almost any Disorder, though the treated Disorder returns to the discard pile and can hit you again later. Episode cards are played on an opponent's untreated Disorder and trigger its effect – some let you steal cards, and an exposed Madness can set someone right back. Keep an eye on what your rivals need, bargain if it helps, and remember that nobody has to keep their side of a deal. The first player to treat all their Disorders wins. The gilded box contains 89 cards with striking artwork and an instruction booklet, and the game takes only minutes to learn.
