Carcassonne: Towers & Thieves – Watchmen on the Lookout 🏰👀

Build towers and place watchmen on them to protect your lands from theft. Carcassonne: Towers & Thieves by Klaus-Jürgen Wrede, from Hans im Glück, is the fourth expansion for Carcassonne and plays in about 45 minutes.

When you place a tile with a tower foundation, you put a tower floor on it, and towers grow taller during the game. Instead of placing a meeple on your new tile as usual, you may place it as a watchman on top of a tower – as long as your tile lies within that tower's range, which equals its number of floors in all four directions. The towers are contested: if you place a watchman on an occupied tower, the previous watchman goes back to the supply, and its owner scores 2 points. Whenever someone draws a tile with a thief symbol, every empty tower first grows by one floor, then each watchman scores the points shown on the thief symbol before all watchmen leave their towers. If no watchmen are on duty, the thieves steal the tile and escape to the scoreboard – until the next watchmen catch them for extra points. In the final scoring, each watchman still on a tower earns 5 points. The box includes a tile-dispenser tower, and the expansion combines with other Carcassonne expansions; the Carcassonne base game is required.
