Arkham Horror Third Edition – A Dark Shadow Grows Over Arkham 🌑🔍

The year is 1926, at the height of the Roaring Twenties – yet alien entities known as Ancient Ones lurk beyond space and time. Arkham Horror Third Edition by Kevin Wilson, Nikki Valens and Richard Launius, published by Fantasy Flight Games, is a cooperative board game for 1 to 6 players aged 14 and up, based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft.

Before you start, choose a scenario and an investigator – such as the dilettante Jenny Barnes or police officer Tommy Muldoon – each with unique starting items and special abilities. Every scenario begins with archive cards that drive the story and give you short-term goals; as more cards join the codex, the mystery unravels, but doom spreads too. A round has four phases. In the Action phase each investigator takes two actions: move, gather resources, focus a skill, ward against doom, attack, evade, research clues or trade. In the Monster phase the creatures close in. In the Encounter phase you draw encounter cards based on your location, with branching stories decided by skill tests – roll a five or six to succeed. Finally, in the Mythos phase, tokens drawn from the Mythos cup summon doom, monsters and new clues. A fully modular board of double-sided tiles makes every game different.
