When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. A Game of Thrones: The Board Game (Second Edition) from Fantasy Flight Games is a strategy game for three to six players, based on George R. R. Martin's bestselling A Song of Ice and Fire novels.

Each player controls one of six Great Houses seeking dominance over the lands of Westeros. By mustering armies, conquering territory and forming alliances, each House strives to control the most Castles and Strongholds so it may ultimately claim the Iron Throne. Every round, all players secretly assign order tokens to their areas – march, defend, support, raid or consolidate power – and then reveal them at once, so planning and bluffing go hand in hand. Battles are decided by army strength, support from neighbours and House cards with famous characters, not by dice. Westeros cards bring musters, supply checks and wildling attacks from beyond the Wall, while bidding on the three influence tracks decides turn order, who wins ties and who holds special privileges. After ten rounds, the House that controls the most Castles and Strongholds wins – or immediately when a player controls seven of them. With fewer than six players, the rules show which Houses to leave out.
