Bridges, castles and barns change the landscape. Castles & Bridges is the eighth expansion for Carcassonne by Klaus-Jürgen Wrede, published by Hans im Glück, in the 2025 edition – for 2 to 6 players aged 7 and up, in about 40 minutes.

When you place a tile with fields on two opposite edges next to an open road, you put a bridge on it, and the road carries on across the field. A completed road scores 3 points for each of its bridges. If you complete a city of exactly 2 segments, you may build a castle on it: a knight already in the city becomes a maiden, and later you can take her back instead of placing a meeple to score 1 point for every knight and maiden in play. Where 4 field corners meet, you may build a barn and move one of your farmers onto it, scoring 1 point for every farmer in play right away. You can build at most one building per turn. This expansion can only be played with Carcassonne, and it combines with other Carcassonne expansions.
