Carcassonne: Messengers & Mayors – Extend Your Influence 🏰📜

Let your mayor compete for the favour of rival knights before duty calls him to a crisis meeting. Messengers & Mayors is Expansion 5 for Carcassonne in the 2025 edition from Hans im Glück, designed by Klaus-Jürgen Wrede and the Hans im Glück team, with illustrations by Marcel Gröber.

Each player gets a mayor, a messenger, a scarecrow and a town hall tile. The mayor can join a city even if it is already occupied; once his tile is surrounded on all four sides, you may replace an opponent's meeple in that city with one of your own. The messenger works on roads: after its road is scored, it can ride on to the next road or into the city at the end of the road. The scarecrow stands in a field and, once surrounded, either brings in one of your farmers or lies down to count as a farmer itself. Your town hall tile can be placed instead of drawing a tile – it fits anywhere, completes the features along its edges and calls nearby mayors to a crisis meeting. With 12 new land tiles, including a river tile for the mini-expansion The River, there is plenty to explore. Please note: this expansion can only be played together with Carcassonne, and it combines with other Carcassonne expansions.
