Fugu – Make Your Sea Critters Happy 🐡🪸

Fugu is a pocket card game by father and son Flavio and Riccardo Foches, illustrated by Crocotame and published by Helvetiq, for 1 to 4 players aged 8 and up, in about 20 minutes. The game won first place at the Premio Archimede, an Italian prize for game prototypes.

You start with a row of face-down cards in front of you, and three cards lie face up in the middle of the table. On your turn, take one of those cards and slide it into your row where it fits, because the numbers must run in ascending order from left to right. Then reveal the hidden card next to it and put it in the middle for everyone to choose from. Every move shows a little more of your plan. Numbers are only half of the puzzle, though. Bannerfish love to stick together, pufferfish want their space, octopuses like to hide between corals, and corals score in sets of three colours. If a card doesn't fit anywhere, you can turn it into an anchor, but anchors cost points at the end. Who will dive the smartest and reel in the most points? Fugu also has a solo mode.
