Qwirkle – Mix, Match and Score 🟥🔷

The rules of Qwirkle are as simple as they get, yet the game calls for tactical and strategic thinking. Susan McKinley Ross's modern classic, winner of the Spiel des Jahres 2011, is for 2–4 players aged 6+.

The game has 108 wooden tiles with six shapes in six colours – each of the 36 combinations appears three times. You keep six tiles in hand. On your turn you add one or more tiles to the shared grid, all in a single line. Every line must share one feature: if the colour is the same, the shapes must differ, and if the shape is the same, the colours must differ. No tile may appear twice in a line. You score one point for every tile in each line you create or extend, so a well-placed tile that fits into two lines at once can be worth a lot. Complete a line with all six colours or all six shapes and you have a Qwirkle, which earns six bonus points. Then draw back up to six. Watch out, though: your opponents are waiting for a lucrative gap, so try not to set up an easy Qwirkle for them. When the bag is empty and a player places their last tile, the game ends; that player gets six bonus points, and the highest score wins.
