DOG – Partners, Cards and a Race Home 🐕🃏

It looks like Ludo, but it is DOG from Schmidt Spiele. Two players always form a team, and you can only win together: the first team to bring all eight of its pieces home wins.

Everyone tries to move their four pieces from the start area around the track and into the target area. Instead of rolling a die, you move with cards. In the first round each player gets six cards, then five, four, three and two, and then the cycle starts again. At the start of each round, team partners secretly swap one card – a good chance to help each other, for example with a card that brings a piece onto the track. Many cards do more than move: a 4 can go forwards or backwards, an ace moves 1 or 11 spaces, and the 7 can be split between several of your pieces. Careful – any piece that a 7 passes is sent back to start, even your own. Partners may not talk about their cards or moves. Once all your pieces are home, you keep playing cards and move your partner's pieces instead. Special rules cover games with 2, 3 and 5 players.
