Match of the Century – Fischer vs. Spassky, 1972 ♟️🃏

In the summer of 1972, the final match of the World Chess Championship in Reykjavik saw the great showdown: American Bobby Fischer challenged reigning world champion Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union. Match of the Century by Paolo Mori (Deep Print Games) is a tactical card game for 2 players aged 10+.

The media called it the most important sporting event of the Cold War – and it became a thriller on both a sporting and a political level. In this game, one of you plays Spassky and the other Fischer. As in a real title fight, you play a series of chess games against each other, but each game lasts only a few short, intense turns. Every game has up to four exchanges, and in each exchange both players play exactly one card. Each player has a unique, asymmetrical deck of 16 cards, and every card shows a white and a black chess piece with its own strength and effect. The result of each exchange moves the advantage marker, and whoever has the advantage at the end of a game wins it. You also have to watch your mental endurance. But only those who are sometimes willing to give up their own advantage can use their cards effectively. Whoever reaches 6 points first – wins and draws are each worth 1 point – wins the title and becomes a chess legend.
