Nine Tiles Extreme – Shape or Colour? 🔄⚡

The popular speed puzzle Nine Tiles, which has sold over 200,000 copies, now has an advanced version – more chaotic than ever. Nine Tiles Extreme by Jean-Claude Pellin and Jens Merkl, published by Oink Games, is for 2 to 4 players aged 6 and up, in about 15 minutes.

Every player has an identical set of nine double-sided tiles, laid out in a 3 × 3 grid. A theme card is revealed, and everyone races at the same time: move and flip your tiles until they match the pattern on the card. Sounds simple – but in Extreme, the patterns can be matched either by shape or by colour, and the back of the card tells you which one counts this time. Because every tile has two sides, you have to think carefully about both: maybe only one tile is left, but it just won't fit, so you start flipping others and searching all over again. Or you arrange everything neatly by colour – when you should have matched the shapes. The first player to finish slaps the card. If the grid is correct, they keep the card face up; if not, it goes face down. Two face-down cards and you're out, while the first player to collect four face-up cards wins. Fans of Nine Tiles and newcomers can enjoy it alike.
