The Quacks of Quedlinburg – Brew, Push Your Luck, Don't Explode 🧪💥

In Quedlinburg, quack doctors compete to brew the most impressive potions. The Quacks of Quedlinburg (German: Die Quacksalber von Quedlinburg) by Wolfgang Warsch (Schmidt Spiele) is a bag-building, push-your-luck game for 2–4 players aged 10+, in about 45 minutes, and won the Kennerspiel des Jahres 2018.

Everyone brews at the same time. You draw ingredient chips from your own bag one by one and place them along the spiral in your pot – the further the potion gets, the more it is worth. The danger is the white cherry bombs: if their total goes over 7, your pot explodes. Then you must choose between points and money for that round. Stop in time and you get both. With the money you buy better ingredients for your bag, and the ingredient books decide what each colour does, so every game can play differently. Rubies let you refill your flask or move your droplet forward for a stronger start, while the rat stones help players who are behind. The fortune-teller cards add a new twist every round. After nine rounds, the quack with the most victory points wins.
