Catan: Crop Trust – Protect the Seeds of Catan 🌱🌍

What if crop loss threatened Catan – can you settle the island without endangering its food supply? Catan: Crop Trust is a scenario for the Catan base game, created in cooperation with the Crop Trust, for 3–4 players aged 12+, taking about 60–90 minutes.

You still build roads, settlements and cities as usual, but now each player has to balance their own need to harvest crops with the shared need to store seeds for the future. Crops come as tokens in five different varieties, and some of them go into the common Seed Vault display. Harvest too greedily, and you endanger the seed diversity the island depends on – events can then hit Catan hard, and in the worst case the food supply collapses. The scenario introduces simple, semi-cooperative rules: you still want to win, but you also have to work with the others to keep Catan healthy. A new fields hex replaces the desert, and the box includes a specially produced almanac about the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, with examples of why crop conservation matters – from more resilient rice to heat-tolerant beans. It is a thoughtful way to bring something new to family Catan evenings. Royalties and a profit contribution go to the Crop Trust.
