Transform the land, build towns and outgrow your rivals. Terra Nova by Andreas Faul, published by Capstone Games, is a simplified version of Terra Mystica by Helge Ostertag and Jens Drögemüller, for 2 to 4 players aged 12 and up, in about 60 to 90 minutes.

In Terra Nova, you choose one of 10 different factions, each with its own abilities – two per player colour, on the two sides of your faction board. The key rule is that every faction can only build on its own terrain type. To expand, you must transform neighbouring hexes into your home terrain with the shovel action, paying with coins or with the game's second currency, power. Power actions can be used only once per round. With your land prepared, you build houses, trading posts and fortresses. Each building uncovers a space on your player board, unlocking more income and, for fortresses, special abilities. Link enough buildings together to found a town and earn sizeable bonuses. The game lasts five rounds. Each round has its own objective that rewards certain actions, and when you can't or don't want to do more, you pass – the order in which players pass decides who goes first next round and which bonus tiles remain. At the end, points are awarded for coins and for the size of your territory. The game also includes multiple two-player variants.
