Ready for another round of brain teasers? Cortex Challenge 2 by Johan Benvenuto, Nicolas Bourgoin and Olivier Mercier (Zygomatic) brings new puzzles and tactile challenges for 2–6 players aged 8+, in about 15 minutes.

A card is revealed, and everyone races to solve it at the same time. The challenges test memory, logic, observation and coordination, and they come in eight different types – from spotting the odd one out and tracking paths to combining shapes. Then there are the touch challenges: a tactile card goes into the box lid, and you have to recognise the raised pattern with your fingers alone, without looking. Whoever solves a challenge first wins the card. Collect two cards of the same type and you earn a piece of a brain puzzle; the first player to complete their brain with four pieces wins the game. Rounds take only seconds, so the pace stays high and everyone is always involved. The rules are quick to explain, and the mix of challenges means that different players shine at different moments – kids often beat the grown-ups. It is a great choice for a short family game night or a quick game between other plans.
