Slide – Push, Pair and Keep It Low 🃏⬅️

The challenge of Slide is to get rid of cards so that you are left with as few points as possible. This card game by Claude Clément, illustrated by Joey and published by Gigamic, is for 2 to 6 players aged 7 and up and plays in about 15 minutes.

Each player is dealt sixteen cards and arranges them face down in a 4×4 grid. The cards range from 1 to 10, with ten copies of each number. To start a turn, every player reveals a card of their choice from their grid. Then, beginning with whoever revealed the lowest number, each player claims one of the revealed cards and slides it into their grid to close the gap left by the card they removed. The starting player rotates clockwise, and this repeats fifteen more times until every grid is fully face up. Now the scoring: every number in your grid that is adjacent to the same number is removed, and the sum of the remaining cards is your score. Whoever has the lowest score wins. Want a longer game? Play several rounds until a player reaches 100 points; again, the lowest total wins. Slide is quick to explain, but choosing which card to reveal, which one to take and where to slide it gives you plenty to think about.
