Qawale – Stack, Sow and Line Up 🪨🍃

A tactical game inspired by piles of pebbles along a path. Qawale by Romain Froger and Didier Lenain-Bragard, published by Gigamic, is an abstract strategy game for 2 players aged 8 and up, in about 15 minutes.

The 4 × 4 board starts with two neutral pebbles stacked in each corner, and each player has 8 pebbles of their own colour. On your turn, add one of your pebbles to the top of any stack, then pick up the whole stack and move it: starting from the bottom pebble, leave one pebble on each space as you go, moving orthogonally. You may not immediately turn back the way you came, but your path can loop. The aim is to make a line of four of your colour – horizontal, vertical or diagonal – visible on top of the stacks. Every move changes the board for both players, so you need to look a few moves ahead. If all pebbles are used and nobody has a line, the game is a draw.

🪨 Stack

🌱 Sow
