Squadro – There and Back Again, Faster Than Your Rival ♟️🏁

Rules understood in two minutes – but how long will it take you to master them? Squadro by Adrián Jiménez Pascual, published by Gigamic, is a wooden abstract strategy game for two players aged 8 and up, in about 10 to 20 minutes.

Each player has five wooden pieces lined up on one side of the board, and the two armies cross each other's paths at right angles. On your turn, you move one of your pieces straight ahead by its current speed – one, two or three spaces, shown by the dots beside its starting space. When a piece reaches the far side, it turns around and may change speed for the journey home: a speed of 1 becomes 3, 3 becomes 1, and 2 stays 2. The clever part is the crossing: if your piece passes over an opponent's piece, the opponent's piece is sent back to its starting line or turnaround point, and your piece stops one space beyond it. A piece that completes the round trip back to its start is removed from the board. The first player to bring four of their five pieces home wins. Squadro won the Grand Prix du Jouet 2019 in the strategy game category and sits in Gigamic's classic range next to Quarto and Quoridor. The wooden board and pieces come with a storage bag.
