Bonsai – Grow Your Tree, Tile by Tile 🌳🪴

A bonsai is a living work of art, a tree in miniature. Bonsai by Rosaria Battiato, Massimo Borzì and Martino Chiacchiera, published by DV Games, is a tile-laying game for 1 to 4 players with a solo variant, in which you show your green thumb and grow a bonsai worthy of the imperial gardens.

Each player takes on the role of a bonsai master, lovingly tending their own tree. On your turn, you choose one of two actions. When you meditate, you take a card from the display and collect up to two bonsai tiles for your own supply. When you cultivate, you place bonsai tiles from your supply onto your tree – and trunk, leaf, flower and fruit tiles each have their own placement rules. Goal tiles add another layer: their colour shows the type of goal and its difficulty, and the bigger the goal, the more points it is worth. On your turn you decide whether to claim a goal you have met or to give it up and aim for a bigger one later. The player who cultivates the most beautiful tree wins a place in the imperial gardens. The rules are simple, yet the game offers plenty of strategic depth. The box contains a board, 156 bonsai tiles, 47 Zen cards, 4 summary cards, 4 Seishi starting tiles, 4 pot tiles, 15 goal tiles, a score pad and the rules.
