Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition – Crisis is a brand new game mode that uses the mechanics of Ares Expedition in a challenging new way. Play it solo, or band together with up to three friends. This is an expansion, not a standalone game: Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition is required.

A catastrophic asteroid collision has taken out nearly all of Martian society's infrastructure. In Crisis Mode, the planet is already terraformed, but the ongoing fallout from the impact is dropping temperatures, de-oxygenating the planet and freezing over the oceans, and there is no time to evacuate the entire population. You keep choosing phases and playing project cards as in Ares Expedition, but now you work as a team, completing projects to counteract the crises and re-terraforming the planet before it becomes uninhabitable – with billions of people still on it. Crisis cards bring new problems each round, and Crisis counters and detriment tokens track how badly things are going, so you need to share out the work and react quickly. The box includes 4 new corporation cards, 10 dummy phase cards, a co-op game board, 85 Crisis cards, 7 card dividers, a Crisis board, 16 Crisis counters and 3 detriment tokens. Designed by Nick Little, Sydney Engelstein and Jacob Fryxelius, Crisis is for 1 to 4 players aged 14+, and a game takes about 60 minutes.
