Pylos – Crown the Pyramid 🔺🟤

Simple rules, quick rounds and rather subtle tactics. Pylos by David G. Royffe, published by Gigamic, is one of the most unusual yet most beautiful abstract games – and winner of several "Game of the Year" awards around the world. For 2 players aged 8 and up, in about 15 minutes.

The object is to save your balls so that you can be the one to place a ball at the very top of the pyramid. Each player has 15 wooden balls in their own colour. On your turn, you place a ball from your reserve either in one of the 16 hollows of the board or on top of any square of four balls, so the pyramid grows level by level. Instead, you can move one of your balls already on the board up a level onto a square – as long as it isn't supporting another ball – which saves a ball from your reserve. And if you complete a square of four balls all in your colour, you may immediately take back one or two of your own free balls. Every ball you save counts, because a player who runs out of balls loses. That's where the tactics come in: when to build, when to climb and when to force your opponent to use up their reserve. Made of wood, Pylos is as attractive as a decorative object on the shelf as it is on the games table.
