Paris: City of Light – Bathe Your Buildings in Light 🗼✨

Paris, 1889: the Exposition Universelle is the ideal opportunity to amaze the world with the power of electric light. Paris: City of Light by José Antonio Abascal, published by Devir, is a tile-laying strategy game for exactly two players aged 8+, with games of about 30 minutes.

The game is played in two phases. In the first phase, you take turns either placing one of your eight cobblestone tiles on the board or taking a building piece for your reserve. Each cobblestone tile is divided into spaces in your colour, your rival's colour, mixed colours or streetlights – so where you place them decides where each of you can build later. In the second phase, you place your buildings on free spaces of your colour or on mixed spaces, or you activate one of the action postcards next to the board. Each postcard can be used only once in the whole game, so taking one also takes it away from your opponent. At the end, each building scores its size multiplied by the number of streetlights shining on it. Your largest group of connected buildings scores extra points, while every building left in your reserve costs you three points. Quick to learn, with tense decisions in every move and a lovely Belle Époque setting.

🧱 Phase 1

Lay cobblestones, take buildings.

🏛️ Phase 2

Build and use postcards.

💡 Streetlights

Light means points.

✉️ Postcards

Each used only once.
