Lead one of four unique factions and grow your little settlement into a thriving empire. Imperial Settlers by Ignacy Trzewiczek, published by Portal Games, is an empire-building card game for 1 to 4 players aged 10 and up, in about 45 to 90 minutes.

Each player leads one of four factions – the Romans, Barbarians, Egyptians or Japanese – and every faction has its own deck of cards with its own strengths and style. Over five rounds you explore new lands, build locations, produce resources, make deals and raze the buildings of others to grow your empire. The heart of the game is the three ways to use your cards: build a location to gain its ability or production, make a deal for a steady income, or raze a card for a one-time reward. Every building you construct can trigger new combinations, so your empire becomes more efficient from round to round. Common cards drawn by everyone mix with your faction deck, keeping each game fresh. The game draws on the card system of 51st State, reworked into a friendlier and more accessible design with light, cartoon-style artwork. In 2014, Imperial Settlers won the Golden Geek award in the solo board game category, and the solo mode is included in the box, so you can build an empire even when nobody else is around.
