Imhotep: The Duel – Two Builders, One Harbour ⚒️🏛️

The builders' competition continues! Imhotep: The Duel by Phil Walker-Harding is a strategy game from Kosmos for 2 players aged 10 and up, in about 30 minutes. It was on the Spiel des Jahres recommendation list in 2019.

You take on the roles of Nefertiti and Akhenaten – one of the most famous royal couples of ancient Egypt. Place your meeples tactically on the harbour board to unload the most valuable tokens from the six boats, and little by little build your four monuments: obelisk, temple, pyramid and tomb. The nine harbour spaces form a three-by-three grid, with a boat moored at the end of each row and column. On your turn, you choose exactly one action: place one meeple, unload one boat, or play an action token. You may unload any boat whose row or column holds at least two meeples – even if none of them are yours. Each meeple in that row or column then unloads one cargo token, starting with the meeple closest to the boat, so the order matters. Every monument scores in its own way, and each site board has an A-side and a B-side for later duels. At the end, the player with the most points wins. A competitive strategy game played directly one-on-one – different rules from the original Imhotep, new tactics.
