Cockroach Soup – Say It Fast, Slurp It Right 🪳🍲

Cook a soup as fast as you can – without tripping over your own tongue. Cockroach Soup (Kakerlakensuppe) from Drei Magier Spiele is a quick-thinking card game in which you discard vegetable cards and have to name them correctly, or slurp at just the right moment. It is for 2–6 players aged 6+.

All 128 cards are dealt out evenly, and everyone holds their cards as a face-down stack. On your turn, flip the top card onto the pile and instantly name the vegetable: mushrooms, leek, pepperoni or carrots. Sounds easy? There is a catch: you may never name the vegetable that is visible on the pile or that was just said – in that case, you must name a different one. Then the cockroaches join in. Each vegetable has four cockroach slurp cards; when one is played, you must slurp, and from then on that vegetable is no longer named – it gets a slurp instead. Slurping can't be repeated either, so a slurp is followed by an appreciative "mmm", and "mmm" is followed by a slurp. Every wrong word, stutter, "um" or hesitation of more than three seconds is a mistake, and you have to take all the discarded cards. Whoever gets rid of all their cards first wins. Cockroach Soup is a standalone game, but you can also combine it with its predecessor, Cockroach Salad.
