On land, at sea, in the clouds and even in space, battles are breaking out between toys – and your troops need your tactical talent to lead them to victory. Toy Battle by Paolo Mori and Alessandro Zucchini, illustrated by Paul Mafayon and published by Repos Production, is a duel for little tacticians and big-time strategists – for 2 players aged 8 and up.

Each player deploys toy troops on whimsical boards, from castles to jungles to space stations. Your goal: capture your opponent's headquarters or collect the medals by controlling regions. On your turn you do just one of two things: draw two troops, or place one troop on the terrain. Every troop you place must be on a slot connected to your HQ, so you build a front line step by step. If you place a troop on an occupied base, it goes on top of the stack, and only the visible troop on top controls the base. Each troop has its own ability – the soldier calls in reinforcements, the duck can defeat any troop but loses to all of them, and the robot shoots from a distance – so choosing where and when to place them is the heart of the game. With four double-sided boards, there are eight different terrains, which keeps every game quick and different, and invites you to play again straight away.
