Moorland – Bring Your Moor Back to Life 🌾🐸

The first rays of sun break through the mist over the high moor – a home for highly specialised plants and animals and an important place for our climate. In Moorland by Steffen Bogen, illustrated by Annika Heller and published by Deep Print Games, 2 to 4 players aged 10 and up each restore their own moor.

The game is played over 12 rounds. Each round, a plant card shows which plant types are available, and a display of moor cards is revealed. On your turn, you take one moor card, then you may place plant markers – cotton grass, rushes, peat moss or heather – onto one of the ground sections of your moor. Finally, you can play moor cards into your moor: a card can only go onto a section that holds all the plants shown on it. Some plants wither, some take root permanently, and the rest drift along your waterways to other connected sections. That is the heart of Moorland: build a clever network of waterways so your plant markers flow exactly where you need them for your next cards. At the end of the game you score for the variety of animal species in your moor – beetles, birds, snakes, dragonflies, butterflies and frogs – as well as for pairs of the same species, rooted plants, your longest connected waterway and the most water striders.
