Piepmatz – Little Songbirds – The Battle for the Bird Feeder 🐦🌻

A beautiful sunrise bathes the bird feeder in golden light, and the birds in the surrounding trees start to sing. Piepmatz – Little Songbirds by Matt Riddle and Ben Pinchback, published by Lookout Games in 2018, is a small card game with surprising depth for 2–4 players aged 10+, playing in about 30 minutes.

A chaffinch settles at the feeder, a sparrow and a bullfinch join it – but the blackbird, greenfinch and yellowhammer are hungry too, and the fight for the feeding spots begins. On your turn, you add one of your hand cards to one of the queues waiting for the feeding spots. If the total strength of the waiting birds beats the bird at the feeder, that bird is chased away into your collection – and takes one of the coveted seed cards with it. The strongest bird in the queue then takes over the spot. If the queue is still stronger, a chain reaction follows and the next bird is chased away too, bringing another seed card. Meanwhile, keep an eye on the forest: squirrel and crow cards scare off the little songbirds or eat their food, so you want to avoid collecting them. At the end, seed cards and bird pairs score points, while single birds only score if you have the most of that species. The player with the most points wins.
