Solo Terraforming Mars usually means racing the clock. Terraforming Mars: Automa from Stronghold Games, designed by Nick Shaw with Dávid Turczi, gives you a real opponent instead: MarsBot, an automated rival that acts as a second player. You need the Terraforming Mars base game to play.

The story: the World Government is unhappy with the pace on Mars and launches an experimental artificial intelligence to direct the terraforming. Your corporation is supposed to work under it – but to win the grant money, you have to beat MarsBot's score. MarsBot is run by its own boards, a triple-layered tracker and special cards, so it takes turns, advances tracks and claims tiles much like a human player would. Give it one of the 46 MarsBot corporations for extra abilities, which also raises the challenge, and choose the difficulty that suits you. The rulebook covers setup and rule changes for each Terraforming Mars expansion, and the box includes a Colonies board and a Venus Next track for MarsBot, so you can mix in the expansions you own and shape the challenge you want.
