Twenty One – Five Rows, Six Dice, Exact Hits 🎲✏️

Five rows. From top to bottom. Twenty One by Steffen Benndorf and Reinhard Staupe, published by NSV, is a quick roll-and-write dice game for 2 to 6 players aged 8 and up, in about 15 minutes.

Each player gets one of six different score sheets: the numbers are the same on every sheet, but the colours are arranged differently, and you fill your five rows one after the other from top to bottom. On your turn, you roll all six coloured dice and may roll once more – but any dice showing a 1 must stay put. Then every player, not just the active one, must write at least one rolled number into their current row: a die may go into the field of its colour if it is lower than or equal to the number shown there. Roll exactly that number and you score an exact hit, marked with a small x, which earns bonus points when the row is complete – up to a maximum of twenty one. If you can't or don't want to enter a number, you must cross out the leftmost empty field of your row. So do you play for speed with small values, or wait for the hits? The game ends as soon as a player has filled and scored all five rows. Simple rules, no waiting times.
